About the Department

Established in 1960, the Department of Physics was set up with the mission of imparting quality education in Physics. One of the founding departments on the campus, the department offers a wide variety of courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and has an active PhD programme. The department offers credit-based courses in basic Physics to first-year engineering (B.Tech.) students and electives at higher semesters. Since 2008, the department has had a two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme in Physics. Faculty and students of the department are actively engaged in research spanning quantum to Cosmological scales and across domains such as materials science for battery, solar cell, semiconductor devices, and sensing applications, computational materials science, biophysics, nonlinear physics, gravitation, and cosmology. Alumni of the department are part of prestigious international scientific collaborations, academic institutions and companies.
